Sunshine Structures tilts 72 foot tall panels at Federal City Marine Reserve Center

NEW ORLEANS, LA (2/10/10) – Sunshine Structures, Inc., reaches the mid-point on the Federal City Marine Reserve Center (MRC) located at 600 Hendee Street, New Orleans, LA.  Sunshine began the project in July 2009 and is ahead of schedule for completing the structural concrete by June 2010.

Woodward Design+Build, the general contractor, awarded the concrete shell contract to Sunshine Structures for this new 411,000 square feet federal agency building that features 72 foot tall site cast tilt-up concrete walls with cast-in thin brick.  Sunshine Structures was actively involved with LJB Inc., in the Structural Design of this CON/STEEL Tilt Systems building, and was awarded the contract to complete all structural concrete and steel reinforced progressive collapse tilt-wall panel systems.

The MRC project is the largest tilt-up structure ever completed for military use.  This building was designed in Tilt-wall to meet the federal government’s Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) requirements for progressive collapse.  This is only the 2nd tilt-wall project in the United States that meets the military’s Progressive Collapse Requirements (LLOP).

Rorie Wilson is the project executive for Sunshine Structures, Noah Schnell is project manager and Brad Harger is project superintendent.  Mathes Brierre Architects designed the building.
